Suren Erkman PhD
President & Founding partner

Suren studied Philosophy and Biology at the Geneva University and holds a PhD in Environmental Sciences at the University of Technology of Troyes (France). After working several years as scientific and economic journalist, Suren created several companies: the Institute for Communication and Analysis of Science and Technology (ICAST), Ecologie Industrielle Conseil (EIC, Paris) and the Resource Optimization Inwitative (ROI, Bangalore). Suren is Professor at the Lausanne University (IPTEH) and heads the industrial ecology group.

Benoît Charrière MSc in Geography
Founding partner

Administrative and financial director

Benoît has a Master in Geography from the Fribourg University (Switzerland) and worked for 2 years in a city planning agency (Local Agenda 21). He spent 3 years in Czech Republic (2005-2008), working for the Charles University Environment Center and collaborating with the Swiss Embassy on scientifics events. Benoît contributes in SOFIES with his experience in industrial estates management, regional development and stakeholders analysis.

Guillaume Massard MSc in Environmental Engineering
Founding partner
Scientific director

Guillaume has a Master in Environmental Engineering of EPFL. After working for an office specialised in environmental assessments, he collaborated with the Swiss Confederation on risks related to heavy metals in soils. He is now specialized in industrial ecology application, especially in industrial symbiosis implementation on a territory.

David Rochat MSc in Environmental Engineering
Founding partner
Sale and marketing director

David graduated with a Master in Envrionmental Engineering in EPFL. He began his career as a scientific collaborator in the Industrial Ecology and Life Cycle Group (EPFL), before joining the Trafic and Transport Office of Geneva. Since 2005, he is coordinating international cooperation projects for the Swiss Materials Science and Techology Institute (EMPA) on electronic waste management (in India, Senegal, Morocco). At SOFIES, David is in charge of projects linked with Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Mass Flow Analysis (MFA).

Laurent Cuénoud MSc in Physics, license in pedagogy
Strategy director

With over 10 years experience in the development of an international IT consulting group (up to 120 employees), Laurent is an energetic and enthusiastic business contributor. Developing business with large companies, he has strengthened a valuable range of skills. As of 2008, he decided to move towards the sustainable development domain for ethical reasons. He started coaching greentech companies on their strategy and organization, developing at the same time business opportunities for clean tech products and services. He joined SOFIES as Strategy director in May 2010. His goal is to strengthen the added value of the consulting services at an international level and, based on a systemic approach, help companies integrate sustainability strategies in their corporate governance framework

Ana Carvalho MSc in Environmental Engineering
Project manager

With a Master in Environmental Engineering from EPFL, Ana joined SOFIES in February 2008, after a work experience with ICAST. As a project manager, Ana is specialised in industrial symbiosis detection, in Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and mass flow analysis (MFA) applications.

Frédéric Sciacca MSc in Environmental Engineering
Project manager

EPF Engineer graduated in Environmental Sciences and Engineering, Frédéric is specialized in environmental bioprocesses. He worked on several projects including industrial smoke treatment and water management in engineer consulting office in Geneva, before leading projects in West Africa (Ivory Coast, Burkina) on water supply and treatment. He is currently project manager in SOFIES in order to bring his technical expertise on waste and water management.

   

 

Charlotte Thevenet Ing. Green Chemistry ENSCM
Project manager

Charlotte joined SOFIES in April 2009 to do her 'end of studies internship' for the Chemistry National Superior School of Montpellier, where she acquired knowledge in chemistry for sustainable development. Charlotte has already done some other internships in environmental assessment labs and in a pharmaceutical company. As project manager, Charlotte is working on metabolism analysis and industrial symbiosis with specific emphasis on chemical sector.

Laetitia Carles MSc in Environmental Engineering
Intern engineer

Laetitia joined SOFIES in August 2010, after graduating in Environmental Sciences and Engineering from EPFL, where she conducted her master’s thesis on modelling dynamic lithium stocks and flows. At SOFIES, Laetitia supports various projects, in particular for mapping economic activities on a territory.
